A woman is dead and seven people are injured after a gunman opened fire at a birthday pool party at a San Diego apartment complex Sunday, police said. Among those that were hit by gunfire were: four black women, three black males, and one latino male. The identity of the deceased victim has yet to be released. It is unknown by police why the shooting transpired and there are more questions than answers at this time. Could this crime be racially motivated or were there other factors in play?
The alleged gunman, identified as Peter Selis, 49, was shot and killed by police, San Diego police said. It was later discovered that the gunman had recently filed for divorce in 2015, and he worked as a mechanic at a San Diego Ford dealership. He also had two children of his own and a step son as well.
